Are You In Tune With Your Hunger Signals?

Are You In Tune With Your Hunger Signals?

Recently I started bringing more awareness to my hunger signals and realized I have some work to do here. I’m currently taking the Hungry For Happiness Certification, which will certify me as an Intuitive Eating and Body Freedom Coach. In our first lesson we talked about physical hunger versus emotional hunger and whether or not we feel safe in our physical hunger. I quickly noticed that I don’t always feel physical hunger in my stomach, so I wanted to share more about hunger and intuitive eating in this post. Read More

The Most Important Tool You Have Is Your Breath

The Most Important Tool You Have Is Your Breath

One of my many favourite topics in yoga teacher training was on the breath.  Our breath is the gateway to our parasympathetic nervous system, which can literally calm the stress response system.  The other benefit is that it takes mindfulness to focus on our breath so will naturally increase our awareness.  Both of these reasons are incredibly helpful when we are feeling disconnected and ready to reach for food. How Lack Of Presence In Your Life Can Manifest As Binge Eating

How Lack Of Presence In Your Life Can Manifest As Binge Eating

It’s common to think that you just don’t have willpower around food.  It’s common to label some foods as good and others as bad.  It’s common to try to think your way out of binge eating and compulsive overeating with more rules, restrictions and plans.  Just because something is common, doesn’t mean it’s normal or healthy.  When you stop looking for that external fix and start looking under the food and doing the internal work you discover many things.  A recent discovery I had is that binge eating was a symptom of not taking up space in other areas of my life.  Binge eating manifested as a way to have presence, as a way to be seen. Can You Be Body Positive And Still Want To Lose Weight?

Can You Be Body Positive And Still Want To Lose Weight?

I’ve noticed some confusion around wanting to be body positive and love your body, while still wanting to lose weight.  Even talk about wanting to nourish your body and eat in a way that supports your health can sometimes make those, who follow others in the body positive, anti-diet community, feel wrong.  I know initially I almost felt guilty for caring about my health and I’ve developed some thoughts on this that I want to share in this post today. 4 Ways To Stop Hating Your Body

4 Ways To Stop Hating Your Body

I see too many women hating their bodies and I get it because I used to hate mine too.  It stopped me from living my life, because I was uncomfortable in my skin.  I constantly thought about how I could make my body smaller, I berated it, called it terrible names, pinched it in disgust.  I cringe now thinking about how I’ve treated my body in the past.  Your body is the vehicle to your beautiful soul and deserves all the love and care you would give a child or beloved pet. You Lose More Than Weight When You Go On A Diet

You Lose More Than Weight When You Go On A Diet

Diet culture tells us that when we lose weight we will therefore become happy, popular, successful and more. It shames us into thinking that we aren’t good enough and that our bodies are somehow wrong if they don’t fit societal ideals of the thin, lean body. Diet culture basically tells us that we’ll get everything we want in life if we just lose weight. This is a fallacy as diet’s not only don’t work but they won’t create the feelings and experiences we’re really hungry for.  The truth is, we lose far more than just weight when we go on a diet.
