The Important of Acceptance

The Importance of Acceptance

Acceptance is a key piece to the healing journey when it comes to your relationship with food and your body.  When we start looking underneath the food we begin to uncover parts of ourselves we’ve been pushing down for years.  These are parts of ourselves we feel we need to hide.  They make us feel uncomfortable, anxious, perhaps even angry.  We fear others seeing these parts of ourselves because we think they will reject us.  We think these parts of us make us unlovable. Triggers Are An Opportunity For Growth

Triggers Are An Opportunity For Growth

In the disordered eating recovery world, there’s a lot of talk about identifying your triggers to avoid falling into a binge. To be honest this work never really helped me because it was again focused on the symptom and didn’t go deep enough. It kept me focused on the surface triggers that led to me binge eating like not drinking enough water, not getting enough sleep, starting the day with sugar, being bored, feeling sad, etc.  Once I knew my triggers I was then supposed to make plans to prevent those triggers from leading to a binge.  Plans like calling a friend, going for a walk, drinking a glass of water, etc. All of this just kept me at surface level, never really dealing with the deeper, underlying issues. Do You Need To Set Boundaries With Yourself?

Do You Need To Set Boundaries With Yourself?

We’ve all heard of setting boundaries with others so they don’t walk all over us and we fall into the people pleasing trap.  Been there, done that, still working on it!  But, have you ever thought of setting boundaries with yourself?  Sometimes we might feel resistance around doing something we know will make us feel better.  Other times we just find we struggle to actually put that thing into action and start that meditation practice or get that movement in.  Setting boundaries with ourselves keeps us accountable and helps us start to shift habits that don’t serve our best interest. Are You Confused About What Real Self-Love Is?

Are You Confused About What Real Self-Love Is?

Self-love is a hot topic these days and for good reason! The problem is, I’m noticing some confusion over what self-love really is. I recently had someone contact me asking me if I was interested in joining their self love challenge. This person went on to explain that the self-love challenge included workouts, a super flexible meal plan with portion control containers, superfoods meal replacement shake, as well as support and accountability. This actually kind of irritated me at first. Continue reading “Are You Confused About What Real Self-Love Is?”

Why I Think You Should Feed Your Inner Child Ice Cream

Why I Think You Should Feed Your Inner Child Ice Cream

I talk a lot about intuitive eating and listening to our bodies when it comes to food.  As you know I am not big on labelling the way we eat or creating rules and restrictions around our diets.  I have addressed the fact that when we release control it doesn’t mean we will eat all the things, all the time.  When we truly listen to our body and not our mind, we will more often than not reach for whole foods.  Our bodies want to be healthy and feel good, but sometimes we get a craving for something like ice cream of fries, which I think we should feed our inner child. 4 Reasons To Overcome The Guilt Of Taking Time For Self-Care

4 Reasons To Overcome The Guilt Of Taking Time For Self-Care

We hear a lot about self-care these days and for good reason. The way people tend to live their lives adds up stress upon stress. The impacts of stress on our health are far reaching and can affect everything from our digestion, blood sugar balance, moods, sleep, and sex drive. Stress is sensed in our brain in the hypothalamus which signals our pituitary gland that in return finally signals our adrenal glands to secrete stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline. 5 Ways Healing Your Relationship With Food Can Improve Your Relationships With People

5 Ways Healing Your Relationship With Food Can Improve Your Relationship With People

By now I’m sure you understand that food isn’t your problem and that the root cause of binge eating runs much deeper. When you do the inner healing work like looking at your belief systems that are creating distorted thoughts that keep triggering you, inner child work, mindfulness to increase your awareness, and practices to get you back in touch with trusting your body and intuition, you can’t not look at all the other areas of your life. Relationships are a big area of our lives and are definitely affected by our internal environment. Can You Be Body Positive And Still Want To Lose Weight?

Can You Be Body Positive And Still Want To Lose Weight?

I’ve noticed some confusion around wanting to be body positive and love your body, while still wanting to lose weight.  Even talk about wanting to nourish your body and eat in a way that supports your health can sometimes make those, who follow others in the body positive, anti-diet community, feel wrong.  I know initially I almost felt guilty for caring about my health and I’ve developed some thoughts on this that I want to share in this post today. 4 Ways To Stop Hating Your Body

4 Ways To Stop Hating Your Body

I see too many women hating their bodies and I get it because I used to hate mine too.  It stopped me from living my life, because I was uncomfortable in my skin.  I constantly thought about how I could make my body smaller, I berated it, called it terrible names, pinched it in disgust.  I cringe now thinking about how I’ve treated my body in the past.  Your body is the vehicle to your beautiful soul and deserves all the love and care you would give a child or beloved pet.
