Pumpkin Spice Latte & Frappuccino

Pumpkin Spice Latte and Frappuccino

Before I moved to the city, I used to love taking trips in during the fall to get pumpkin spice lattes.  Now that I know whats in them and how they affect my adrenals and blood sugar, I’ll pass.  Instead, I make my own with wholesome real food ingredients.  I’ve never been a coffee drinker except for my past consumption of flavoured lattes.  The caffeine is an extra stress on my adrenals that I don’t need, so I opted to use Dandy Blend in these, which has a similar flavour.  Its great for the liver as it contains dandelion, chicory and beet root.

It also contains rye and barley but is gluten free because of how it’s made.  If you do fine with coffee you could substitute the dandy blend with some coffee and adjust the other liquids to get the right texture.  Both these drinks actually contain real pumpkin, unlike most versions, as well as the spices that make up pumpkin pie spice.

Ingredients
  • 1/4 c pumpkin
  • 1/4 c coconut milk
  • 1/2 dropper of stevia
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ginger
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/8 tsp allspice
  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 heaping tbsp Dandy Blend
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. Combine the ingredients in a blender and then pour into a pot to heat. Add enough water to fill a mug and heat on medium until it’s reached the desired temperature.
Notes
You might want to heat it first then blend it so you get more foam on top, but just be warned that hot liquids in the blender tend to explode! I usually put a tea towel over the blender first.

Pumpkin Spice Frappuccino

Nelson has a slight addiction to frappuccino’s so I made this drink for him.  While he’s not a big fan of the banana, I thought it tasted good.  If you don’t want to taste any banana I’d suggest leaving it out and using 3/4c of pumpkin and maybe more ice and some stevia for sweetness.

  • I feel so silly… I had no idea you could use those jars of frapp to make em at home… I thought you just drank them from the boltte and I always thought, “That doesn’t look near as good as when I get it at Starbucks.” Now I get it and I think it looks absolutely as good! Thanks for sharing!!
