4 Reasons You Should Get Rid Of Your Scale (video)
Oh the scale, that hunk of useless metal that far too many women let affect their happiness. I get it. I mean I used to step on that thing multiple times a day and the number was never low enough. And when it went up, look out because the rest of the day was a right off. Suddenly my clothes felt uncomfortable and I would either end up eating more because I felt worthless or I would start to plan my new diet and exercise regime.
Since coming to my senses and getting rid of that thing I couldn’t be happier! It’s been 5 years since I threw out my scale and I’ve never looked back. Since then I’ve only weighed myself 2 or 3 times, and the first time was when I got a DEXA scan to check my bone mineral density. Because of all the work I’ve done the number didn’t upset me, even though it was higher than it used to be when I was literally running my ass off.
Ahh, I’m in a punchy mood so pardon the swearing but this is the real me! Seriously though, that number was 20-25lbs higher and you can read more about my thoughts on the results of that DEXA scan in my post, Why BMI And Body Composition Are Overrated. Anyways, the other couple of times I’ve stepped on the scale the weight was the exact same.
My body has found it’s happy place and it no longer fluctuates drastically like it did when I was restricting and binge eating. It’s crazy how much it used to fluctuate and how tight my jeans could be one week and then feel loose the next, only to tighten up again the following week.
When you learn to eat in moderation and let go of rules, stop dieting and restricting you also stop the emotional/binge eating. You break that vicious cycle and can start to find peace with food and your body.
So what do you say? It’s about time you stop letting the scale dictate your happiness and start focusing on more important things in life! Don’t worry, nothing bad is going to happen when you stop monitoring that number. You won’t suddenly lose control, because news flash, we don’t really ever have control anyways. Break free from body obsession and weight obsession and choose love and happiness instead.
