I know its summer right now but that doesn’t mean we have to forget about our Slow Cookers.  The best part about this Slow Cooker Apple Cinnamon Steel-Cut Oatmeal is that you can eat it cold or hot.  Plus it makes the house smell amazing and who doesn’t appreciate that?!

This was my first time making  steel-cut oats in a slow cooker and I’m hooked!  I love the texture of steel-cut oats better than rolled oats but I find I often under cook them on the stove.  The slow cooker method is foolproof and leaves you with creamy steel-cut oats that still have a bit of chewiness to them.

The apple cinnamon flavour reminds me of apple pie and I used some Canada No.3 Maple Syrup to sweeten it.  I portioned mine out into 6 mason jars, which made for quicker breakfast break.  On the days I felt like hot oatmeal I transferred a serving to a small pot, added a bit of water and heated.  I then topped with my favourite nut butter or coconut butter, bee pollen, raw cacao nibs, goji berries or whatever I had on hand.

Other days I mixed with some coconut yogurt to eat cold at work with berries and nuts.  I also stirred into some good quality protein powder after workouts.  This slow cooker Oatmeal is seriously versatile and you could add different fruit to the slow cooker while cooking as well.

An easier way to make still-cut oats that turn out delicious, creamy and chewy.
Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups steel cut oats
  • 6 cups filtered water
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 5 small apples, chopped (I used gala)
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/3 cup maple syrup, Canada No. 3
Instructions
  1. Add all ingredients to slowcooker and turn on low for 8 hours.
  2. Store in fridge and eat throughout the week.
