Proud Ambassador of Fitset
As most of you know, I’m a big fan of health and fitness. I feel movement, activity, exercise, whatever you want to call it, is an important part of our mental and physical health. In fact, exercise can be one of the best treatments for people with depression. (1, 2) You also might know that I used to have a terrible relationship with exercise. As part of my struggle with disordered eating I used to use exercise to burn calories and try to lose weight, when I was already underweight. I would also use it to punish myself after my binge eating episodes. If you know my story, then you know this lead to many health issues including an underactive thyroid, depression, digestive issues, amenorrhea and hormones levels like that of a post menopausal women.
Fortunately I’ve been able to improve and overcome those issues and now use exercise to support both my mental and physical health. I struggle with insulin resistance and exercise helps tremendously! I also fuel and nourish my body properly depending on my activity level. As I am still trying to overcome Adrenal Dysfunction, my favourite activities these days include yoga, strength training and walking outside. When I found out about the Fitset pass that was launching here in Edmonton, to say that I was excited is an understatement! They not only include gyms that do HIIT and spin classes but also include yoga studios, Barre, pilates, dance and gyms with classes that focus solely on strength training. The later are my choices, so that I don’t stress my nervous system, while I work on overcoming low cortisol levels and get my adrenals working well again.
My friend and Holistic Nutritional Psychologist, Rosalyn Fung invited me to share a booth with her at Fitset’s launch party, as I’m the free bonus for anyone that signs up for her amazing body image workshops. The launch party was last Saturday and was a complete blast. Fitset is a pass that allows you to attend various participating boutique gyms and yoga studios around the city. You are limited to 3 visits per month to each gym or studio, which encourages you to try out something new! The price is only $99 per month, which I think is awesome! I’ve struggled with wanting to practice yoga regularly but also attend other gyms and Fitset has solved my problem! Anytime I have stopped practicing yoga in the past to attend another gym, I’ve noticed my stress levels go up. Yoga really is one thing I’ve found personally that helps me manage stress, so I’ve resorted to working out at home the past 7 months.
The Fitset launch party included a workout to the beats of a DJ with 10 minutes from 5 of the different gyms that are a part of Fitset. The workout included yoga from Edmonton Power Yoga, Zumba with Fusion Fitness and Wellness Studio, Barre with Barre Body Studio Edmonton, HIIT with Blitz Conditioning and more yoga with Lahari Yoga Studio. I was a dripping puddle by the end of it! I have to say I actually really enjoyed the Zumba as well and although I felt like I did not bad, I probably looked like a baby giraffe stuck in a hamster wheel. If you can imagine that! That’s okay. It only makes me want to attend that class more often so I can get good at it. Rosalyn also walked everyone through a mindful eating experience after our sweaty workout!
I’m excited to be one of Fitset’s newest ambassadors! I loved the idea so much that I jumped at the chance to spread the news of this awesome new company! Did you know that they are also in Calgary, Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa? Check out their website to see what gyms and yoga studios are included in the pass. I have to say, I was quite impressed with the variety and discovered some new places I’m excited to check out. I really like supporting local businesses too and this is a great way to do that! Being an ambassador gives me the opportunity to give you 20% off for your first month!
